What is QueeringW Network[edit]
QueeringW is an initiative that aims to provide a collective framework and resources for the efforts of LGBTIAQ+ Wikimedians and allies working on content, participation and methods related to gender identity and sexual orientation, using technologies, protocols and processes compatible with Wikimedia and wider Open Culture movement.
Its Balkan assembly/connective is focused on doing this in Balkan regional context and within its socio-economic, cultural and legal conditions. The reach is focused in the Balkans but is intentionally spread farther.
Mission:[edit]
Support for Queer Individuals and Informal groups: Providing support for engaging in Wikimedia activities and Wiki work.
- Impactful Content Improvement: Coordinating efforts to enhance the quality, coverage and reach of gender identity and sexual orientation-related content across Wikimedia projects and beyond.
- Awareness Events: Organizing events to raise awareness about and promote interest in LGBTQIA+ related subjects among Wikimedians and non-Wikimedians alike.
- Policy Recommendations: Offering policy recommendations to the WMF and to other Wikimedia related entities to ensure equal participation of Queer individuals in Wikimedia projects.
- Inclusion of Underrepresented Knowledge: Incorporating underrepresented gender identity and sexual orientation-related knowledge, particularly regarding regional specifics in the CEE area.
- Coordinate and grow solidarity for collective action: Synchronize and organize individuals for shared goals and better impact though joint activities and statements.
Community and Inclusivity:[edit]
QueeringW CEE is an intersectional coordination and community that acknowledges diversities of participants and experiences as one of its key qualities. We welcome individuals of all backgrounds (religion, ethnicity, nationality, class...), sexual orientations, gender identities, and abilities.
Safe Space Policies:[edit]
- 1- Our group operates as a Safe Space. This includes all on-Wiki and off-Wiki channels for the community. It also includes all online and offline meetings.
- 2- Our Safe Space Policy includes being in compliance with the WMF's Friendly Space Policy.
- 3- Discriminatory remarks or actions of any kind constitute a violation of the safe space.
- 4- We intend to have separate spaces where political discussions are encouraged, and some groups that don't allow for political discussions. Anti-LGBTQ+, sexist, or otherwise discriminatory ideas aren't allowed in either type of group.
- 5- To be continued...
Membership requirements:[edit]
Since this group serves a function of getting people to become introduced in Wikimedia projects and wiki work, it doesn't have a requirement of being an experienced Wikimedian to join. The requirements are as follows:
- 1- Having a Wikimedia account.
- 2- Expressing interest in gender identity and sexual orientation topics.
- 3- Complying with the group's Safe Space Policies.
- 4- Showing willingness in acquiring Wikimedia related skills, at ones own pace.
